Fishing Report Dec. 1, 2013

Wow! Finally a real cold front in South Florida! We can only hope that there are still plenty of baitfish and predators that haven’t passed by without us knowing. With winds predicted to be out of the northeast at 15 to 25 miles per hour Friday night and into Saturday it won’t be until late Sunday or Monday when winds are predicted to start subsiding that we will know if this front has brought us the fishing we are all waiting for. Winds are predicted to be light by Monday.

Pompano Beach, Port Everglades, Haulover, Government Cut to Ocean Reef

We could see a run of bluefish, Spanish mackerel and pompano along the beaches by Monday. As of now only a few of these species are being caught. With plenty of dirty water offshore look for a clean blue water edge for some of the better fishing this weekend. Sailfish, dolphins, blackfin tuna and king mackerel have been caught along this edge and should be available throughout the weekend with the best fishing coming late Sunday and into the next week. Mutton snappers, gag, black and red grouper plus an assortment of jacks are being caught on large live baits fished over many of the wrecks in 100 to 400 feet of water. Nighttime bottom fishing has been slow due to the weather.

North Biscayne Bay Inshore

Strong winds and rough water has scattered much of the baitfish that was in the Bay. This past week I found scattered Spanish mackerel, bluefish, jacks, blue runners and a few gag groupers in the Bay. I did not target sea trout and am sure there are plenty to be caught over the grass flats. Once the weather calm downs expect the fishing to pick up in the Bay.

South Biscayne Bay

Windy conditions have made bonefish and permit fishing almost impossible. If these fish are what you want to target this weekend than concentrate your efforts on the backside of the Oceanside islands. Sea trout are being caught on the deeper grass flats on the west side of South Bay. Look for groupers, snappers and jacks to be feeding in the stirred up waters of South Bays Finger Channels.

Fun longboard waves again today pretty much throughout Broward and PBC. Winds are on it now but there are still plenty of fun waves to be had.

Above photos are from the early morning session in south central PBC.

Below photos are from North Broward after the winds got on it.

Thigh high in Pompano

Thigh high in Pompano with off shore winds! Looks really fun for a longboard! You might be better off going up north for more size.

Photos from Friday

Here’s a few shots from yesterday in North Broward. Lot of fun on a longboard!

Looks like offshore winds this Saturday morning! At least on the Lake Worth Buoy. Not sure if we have any size out there but I be checking it ASAP. I’ll update the contributed reports from my phone to let you know.

Happy Thanksgiving

Fun waves in PBC this morning with offshore winds and crazy steam coming off the water. Made for a trippy session early this morning. There’s still some waves to be had but the winds are turning more side shore now.

Scored some FUN chest to head high sets up in South central Florida this afternoon on the way back from camping  at Tomoka State Park. Killer place to camp, BTW!

Maybe a little Bounce swell, North swell action with offshore winds for Thanksgiving morning…Maybe!?!

Looked  for some cover this morning. Waist plus waves but with the lower tide it just wasn’t happening where we were at in south Palm beach county.

Some fun windchop in the waist high range around North Broward. The photos are from  a pre Skim Scare contest session this morning in Deerfield. The skim is probably over by now but the surf contest is on for tomorrow.
