POSSIBLE Nor’Easter BIG NE Groundswell

ERIKA wasn’t such a bad girl after all. Hopefully you got some of what she was offering up the last couple of days. Was super fun here this morning in NE Florida and the swell is now quickly fading. Buoys this evening showing only about 3 feet of swell from the East Canav bouy all the way up into Nantucket. Have no fear as her evil twin may try and make a run at a comeback tour. Start you off with a look at the Rainbow IR of the Western Carib and GOMEX. Lots of convective activity here. Remnants of ERIKA are located within the associated trough that runs from NE Florida down to the NW corner of the YUKE. We’ve been following a little area of spin last couple of days near Western Cuba that has now moved out over the YUKE. We are approaching that time of year where chances begin to increase for homegrown development. So for our GOMEX followers hang on. Not expecting any development during the forecast period but there may be a slight bump coming as what is near the YUKE begins to lift towards the NNW.2015-08-31_202657Here’s this afternoons run of the EURO for Tuesday. The cyclonic circulation associated with Ex-ERIKA now up towards the Big Bend and associated trough North of the YUKE into the Western Gomex. East Coasters take note of the area of Low Pressure over the OBX.2015-08-31_210608Wednesday moving over NE Florida and now a 1016MB Low East of the OBX.2015-08-31_211023Then on Thursday area of Low Pressure ESE of the OBX moving out towards Bermuda and a 1014MB Low off the NE Florida SE Georgia Coast. This will get some NE winds going . Florida Pan Handlers that little blip South of Lousianna is the little spin we’ve been monitoring last couple of days near Western Cuba. Could provide you with a small bump.2015-08-31_211250Then on Friday the EURO starts to bring on da goods. Moves the small low (Ex-ERIKA) off the coast a bit and the Low out near Bermuda begins to deepen.2015-08-31_211612Saturday area of weak Low Pressure still hanging East of Florida and HELLO POSSIBLE GRACE. More importantly look at high pressure digging in behind a backdoor front. Thats ENE winds from Nova Scotia down into the OBX and 35-40Kt NE winds coming off the 1010MB Low NE of Bermuda. Whats doubly important is the moderate to large overall footprint. Larger the footprint the more swell generated.2015-08-31_212511Skip Sunday then into Monday. Deepening Low NE of Bermuda and deepening Low of the Georgia Coast. The little dot right of frame is whats left of Drop Dead Fred.2015-08-31_213641And on Tuesday the Low off the GA/SC coast deepens a bit and becomes more circular. Draw a line from left to right through the small center circle. Everything South of that line all the way down into South Florida OFFSHORE winds.2015-08-31_215054Cross your fingers. Will hold short on calling for Major Swell Event at this time based on last forecast package with ERIKA. Either way looks like Large NE Groundswell coming. Lets hope we don’t get a Nor’Easter to go with it from the Low close to the coast. Just the offshore winds. Stay tuned for the next update. For those wondering if we will get swell from Drop Dead Fred. Que ESPN, COME ON MAN !!!! Time to make the doughnuts.2015-08-31_180415

Chest high with some bigger sets pretty much throughout south Florida today.  I wasn’t able to get much photos with all the rain. The waves were a little better than what the pics make it look. It started getting a little more organized when I left around noon. This afternoon should be fun with the incoming tide. GO SURF if you haven’t already!

Here’s a few shots Scotty got this morning in Pompano.

Sunday

Waist to head high southeast wind chop throughout most Broward county today, depending on your spot.

Good Morning! There’s Waves!!! Thank You God!!! Waist to Chest High plus SE wind swell. It’s Short-Boardable, Drifty and Fun! SE winds at 15-20+ with a Low Tide around 3:20 PM. Better later? Tomorrow?? Will Erika re-form??? We’ll see!!! Keep Praying!!! Adios!

Sunday Morning Surf Update FRED/GRACE ?

Winds are cranking ESE 15-20 this morning out back here in Jax Bch. Waist To Chest bigger sets could make for a fun wave right tide right spot. Solid Swell in the water buoys are up. We now have Tropical Storm FRED off the coast of West Afrika. Models had been moving it towards the West and dropping it. We tagged it on our social feeds as “Drop Dead FRED”. We did not expect this to ramp up like this, Models like on ERIKA seem to be flipping as a large blocking High forecast to develop in the NE Atlantic and now show the possibility of a crosser.2015-08-30_060724
Hurricane Watch now in effect for Cape Verde next 48 hours.2015-08-30_054618
If you look at the big picture you can see Ex-ERIKA, the  SW flow loft, and picture the Blocking High in the NATLC…2015-08-30_065641
You can see why last nights EURO wants to spin this up in 5-7 Days. Lots of uncertainty. Models previously were trending on development SE of the OBX. Latest EURO wants to hang it then lift NE GRACE ?2015-08-30_062312
Here’s this mornings video surf report brought to you by North Beach Fish Camp end of Atlantic Blvd representing Neptune Beach.  Will have a more complete forecast update later today after some storm surf sesh first, stay tuned.

Saturday

Kinda fun knee to waist high windchop in Deerfield this morning. Full moon high tide had it early and now the tide is too low. whatever, we had fun on the logs and fishes. I think the incoming this afternoon should be fun.

Erika was a dud. We still should get some fun South windchop out of her tomorrow. NWS is calling for 20 to 25 knot SE winds tonight and tomorrow. With the amount of fetch we should see some chest to head high sets.
