We awake 5am on Tues morning to the grumble of mother nature pounding the shores outside.  A good feeling of anticipation on a surf trip, especially when you gamble on all the elements coming together.  As we scour the area to find the best breaking spot on bikes I am always trying to find the light.  The first 30 mins of sunrise is key to getting some amazing light especially when you have rare surf conditions.  The spot was decided and then I had to find where to shoot.  It was 6-8ft with a massive amount of water moving, which made the decision to not swim a hard but easy one.  Until I see the guys getting a lot of good waves in one spot I usually won’t swim especially if it looks like they are struggling to get into position.  The swell hit and was maxing out in many areas.  The rest of the crew was still waiting for the board to arrive while our crew had one boardbag to split up and use.  I shot from land most of the day until the afternoon squalls starting hitting with rain and hard offshore winds.  The rest of the crew arrived about 10:30am with our boards as well and session two was well on the way.  A great couple adopted the 4 photographers to let us shoot on their roof!  Yes, 2 still shooters and 2 filmers.  Full on paparazzi for this trip.  There were a few barrels scored and a bunch of wipe outs trying.  Almost swam the third session before Evan came in saying the paddle was as bad as Sandy.  So, no thank you!  We ended up heading to town to eat with the awesome couple and hung out with a few locals into the the early evening.  Hopefully more of the same tomorrow with the conditions taming a bit.
