Day 9: Things got interesting

Day 9: Things got interesting

The evening before, we had gone to bed wondering how the second half of the crew was doing having fun after splitting up from the other group after  an afternoon at Rancho Santana.

About 12pm Karina comes in tour our room that consists of Woody, myself and Doug while we are all sleeping.  Doug is half deaf so he never wakes from all the uproar.  Woody and I thought we were dreaming but eventually came to after some intense details were said.  Short story… the four of them were in the car driving down the extremely dusty road and got into an accident.  A biker on the side of the road was hit in the process and was unconscious.  Shortly later he awoke.  Everyone was shaken but fine in the car.  They took the biker to the hospital for immediate care which most likely helped his condition in the long run.  The police were involved.  Fast forward 7 hours later where Karina comes in to announce this.  The four of them were with 3 police officers whom had compounded their rental car and wanted to take the driver to jail for the mandatory 48 hours.  Matt and Jasmin followed to hopefully help the situation back to the police station in the middle of the night.  Nicaragua law is guilty until proven innocent which can be really tough for an accident like this.  The US is innocent until proven guilty.  The way the law works here is not exactly always fair but can also go in your favor.  We awoke to a cancelled fish/surf trip and still the matter wasn’t settled.  I got up to shoot my morning flash session and hoped to see they story solved by the time I got home.  Nope!  The day continued with myself packing and arranging a ride to the airport, which took a couple hours.  4:00pm rolled around and Willie and Randy came back with the rest of the crew and the story came to a close.  The crew prepared a huge seafood dinner while a couple of the guys and I went out for one last sunset flash session into the dark.  I rushed back home, took apart my housing, packed the camera, ate and said bye to everyone!  Took the taxi for the 2.5 hour ride back to the airport.  Hardly able to keep my eyes open I passed out.  Woke up to brakes slamming and a biker coming right at us while the driver was trying to pass a semi.  Holy crap that got my heart beating.  We just missed him and I told the driver to slow down, no rush…. in my spanglish.  I flew home with a 3 hour delay into the night on the red eye.  What a trip!  Didn’t surf once as I completely focused on shooting.  Thanks to all that made it happen!  Till next time!
